3rd June 99 - Henchoz agrees to Anfield move

Liverpool have agreed to pay �3.5 million for Blackburn defender Stephane Henchoz, according to UK media reports.
Team boss Gerard Houllier has been seeking to bolster his defence and having failed to land Bayern Munich's Markus Babbel, approached relegated Blackburn for the Swiss International.
Henchoz is in Switzerland receiving treatment on a long-standing groin injury and is expected to undergo a medical in the next fortnight.


24th May 99 - Rovers to sell Sutton and Flowers

English club Blackburn Rovers have thrown open the bidding for England stars Chris Sutton and Tim Flowers.
Both striker Sutton and goalkeeper Flowers have told the club they want to leave in the wake of the club's relegation from the Premiership.
It is believed 26-year-old Sutton's escape clause from his contract only comes into force if Blackburn receive a bid of more than �10 million. Flowers, 32 would cost around �2 million.


13th April 99 - Sutton to miss relegation fight

With just six games left struggling Blackburn Rovers have admitted that striker Chris Sutton is unlikely to return to action this season.
Sutton is still suffering from a groin strain which kept him out of contention for England's recent international with Poland and Rovers are facing up to their relegation battle without him.
Sutton has managed just four goals in 19 appearances in an injury-disrupted campaign. Blackburn currently occupy 18th place in the Premiership.


13th February 99 - Blackburn sign teenager O'Brien

English Premiership club Blackburn have beaten Manchester United in the race for the signature of St. Mirren's South African born teenager Burton O'Brien.
The 17-year-old midfielder is moving in a joint deal with team mate David McNamee. They will cost an initial �300,000 each with another �1m depending upon appearances.
O'Brien was also wanted by Leeds and Manchester United. The pair will stay at St. Mirren this season.


4th February 99 - Tottenham finally sign Sherwood

Tottenham have finally signed unsettled Blackburn captain Tim Sherwood. They have been trying to buy him for three months and will pay around �3 million.
The 30-year-old spent eight years with Blackburn and won the Premiership title with them in 1995, but has recently been agitating for a move


4th February 99 - Tottenham poised to sign Sherwood

Tottenham expect to sign unsettled Blackburn captain Tim Sherwood on Thursday. They have been on his track since November and will pay close to �5 million
David Pleat, Tottenham's Director of Football, said that he and manager George Graham had met Sherwood and hoped to finalise the deal quickly.
Sherwood will be Graham's third signing for Tottenham, following the Argentinian Mauricio Taricco and German Steffen Freund.


1st February 99 - Perez returns to France on loan

Unsettled Blackburn Rovers defender Sebastien Perez has been allowed to return on loan to former club Bastia until the rest of the season.
Perez signed for the English club for �3 million in the summer but has been plagued by injury in recent months.
The defender was a regular in the early part of the season but has been a marginal figure since knee surgery and the arrival of new manager Brian Kidd.  


28th January 99 - McAteer completes �4 million move

Republic of Ireland midfielder Jason McAteer completed a �4 million transfer from Liverpool to Blackburn and said that he had not been part of the Anfield club's first team plans.
McAteer, who went to Liverpool from Bolton three and a half years ago, said that his prospects had been bleak after Roy Evan's departure as joint coach.
"I felt my chances would be very limited and that a move to Blackburn would be right," said McAteer.  


27th January 99 - McAteer agrees to move to Blackburn

Liverpool's Republic of Ireland midfield player Jason McAteer has agreed to a �4 million transfer to Blackburn.
Blackburn manager Brian Kidd, who took over from Roy Hodgson in December, has already spent more than �11 million on new players before this latest deal.
He may soon recoup some money from the transfer of captain Tim Sherwood, who has been unable to agree terms of a new offer. He is thought to be keen on a move to Tottenham.


18th January 99 - Jansen joins Rovers

Blackburn Rovers have signed striker Matt Jansen from English First Division club Crystal Palace for four million pounds.
21-year-old Jansen had been expected to join Newcastle, but instead becomes manager Brian Kidd's third signing since his arrival at Ewood Park.
His departure caused the rift between Crystal Palace's owner Mark Goldberg and former England coach Terry Venables, which led to the latter stepping down as manager.


15th December 98 - Kidd makes Gillespie his first signing

New Blackburn Rovers boss Brian Kidd has made his first excursion into the transfer market with a �2.35m swoop for Newcastle United winger Keith Gillespie.
Kidd worked with the Republic of Ireland international when they were both at Manchester United and believes he will help kickstart Rovers' faltering Premiership campaign.
He said: "Keith is quality and his best years are ahead of him. He is quick and
has power." 


15th December 98 - McClair in Blackburn discussions

Former Scottish international Brian McClair is in talks with Blackburn Rovers about becoming Brian Kidd's assistant.
The two men worked closely together when they were both at Old Trafford and McClair's
vast international experience would be a huge bonus to Kidd as he takes his first steps as
a manager.
Motherwell, McClair's current club, have given Blackburn permission to speak to the 35-year-old and a deal could be announced later this week.


3rd December 98 - Kidd agrees to join Blackburn

Manchester United assistant manager Brian Kidd has joined Premier rivals Blackburn
as boss in a deal reportedly worth �500,000 a year.
Kidd, who made a major contribution to United's domestic domination, decided to accept
a fresh challenge after talks with Blackburn chairman Jack Walker.
"I'm delighted Brian has decided to join us. He was always first choice," said Walker who
will make �25 million available to buy players. Kidd succeeds sacked Roy Hodgson.


3rd December 98 - Rovers cleared to talk with Kidd

Blackburn Rovers have announced that they have gained Manchester United's clearance
to talk to assistant manager Brian Kidd about the managerial vacancy at Ewood Park.
United chairman Martin Edwards had earlier rejected an initial approach from the
Premiership tailenders, who sacked Roy Hodgson last month.
United are keen to keep Kidd, who has been number two to Alex Ferguson for almost
eight years, but have accepted that the decision is up to him. 


1st December 98 - Rovers denied talks with target Kidd

Blackburn Rovers have been denied the chance to talk to Manchester United's assistant manager Brian Kidd about the managerial vacancy at Ewood Park.
Rovers made an official approach, but United refused, a decision Kidd is apparently
happy with. Another target, Ranger's Colin Hendry has also declared that he doesn't
want the position.
Speculation is now focusing on Coventry City boss Gordon Strachan, who may be
prepared to move to a club with larger financial resources.


21st November 98 - Hodgson quits as Blackburn go bottom

Manager Roy Hodgson left Blackburn Rovers by mutual consent after a 2-0 home defeat by bottom club Southampton left the Ewood Park team at the foot of the English Premiership.
Hodgson joined Blackburn from Inter Milan and had a sucessful first season but
they have only collected nine points from 14 games this campaign.
Rovers issued a statement saying: "The club are disappointed at this outcome but
feel the decision is inevitable." They were champions in 1995.


30th October 98 - Blackburn to sign striker Blake

English Premiership club Blackburn Rovers have agreed terms with First Division side Bolton for the �4.25 million transfer of Welsh striker Nathan Blake.
Rovers made their move for Blake, who will sign following a medical, after being snubbed by Coventry striker Dion Dublin who refused to join them in a �6.75 million deal.
Manager Roy Hodgson wants to strengthen his squad for the fight to get out of the
bottom half of the League table.


29th October 98 - Blackburn loan Italian

Blackburn Rovers thwarted in their bid to sign striker Dion Dublin, have taken Lazio
midfielder Dario Marcolin on loan for the rest of the season.


26th October 98 - Blackburn swoop for Swiss teenager

Swiss Under-21 international Oumar Konde has signed for English Premier Club Blackburn for �500,000, the club confirmed.
The 19-year old midfielder, who played around 80 games for previous club FC Basel,
has agreed a five-year deal with boss Roy Hodgson, the former national coach with
Switzerland.
"I am looking forward to joining Blackburn and playing for Roy Hodgson who has an
excellent reputation in Switzerland," said Konde.


14th October 98 - Dahlin set to join Hamburg

Swedish striker Martin Dahlin is set to leave English Premier club Blackburn Rovers for
German Bundesliga side SV Hamburg, says German newspaper Bild.
The 30-year-old joined Blackburn from AS Roma last season but never really settled
into the team, or the northern English town.
The report says Dahlin will move immediately, on loan until the end of the season. Dahlin
has played in the Bundesliga before in two spells with Borussia Moenchengladbach.


10th September 98 - Sherwood bid over

Caretaker manager David Pleat says Tottenham are ready to give up on their attempts to
sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Tim Sherwood.
"There is no anomosity between me and their manager Roy Hodgson. We made a bid for
Sherwood, which was rejected, so we increased the offer," said Pleat.
"That was turned down so I do not want to cause Roy any more embarrassment. We have
not even talked to the player."


8th September 98 - Sherwood dropped

Blackburn manager Roy Hodgson has left captain Tim Sherwood out of the squad for the
match with Spurs on Wednesday.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for the midfielder. Hodgson said: "The player is in a very unsettled state of mind because he is tempted by the supposed offer that Spurs have offered him."
"I want commitment at the club."

Premiership Blackburn Rovers start their UEFA Cup venture against French First Division
Olympique Lyon in the first round proper of the competition.


20th August 98 - Dailly joins Rovers

Blackburn Rovers have signed Derby County defender Christian Dailly for a transfer fee of �5.35 million.
Dailly, a key member of Scotland's World Cup squad at France 98, has put his signature to a six-year contract with the Ewood Park outfit.
Rovers boss Roy Hodgson sees Dailly as an ideal replacement for central defender
Colin Hendry following his move to Glasgow Rangers.


19th August 98 - Pedersen pledge

Blackburn's Norwegian international defender Tore Pedersen has said that he
wants to see out his career at Ewood Park, if he can finally earn a regular first team place.
The 28-year-old told the Blackburn Evening Telegraph: " If Colin Hendry had stayed I was expecting to leave the club but now I could play every week.
"If I could get a first team place I would be happy to stay here."


14th August 98 - Davies hails Hodgson

Summer signing Kevin Davies believes his young career will flourish under Roy Hodgson.
"The manager has impressed me a lot. He takes time in training to put things right and I have a lot of faith in him."
"He's already shown me new things like a new trick to keep hold of the ball. He is great with all the young players and he's showing us the right way to play," he enthused.

4th August 98 - Gers capture Hendry

Scottish giants Rangers have completed the signing of Blackburn defender Colin Hendry in a deal thought to be worth around �4 million. 
Rangers boss Dick Advocaat was rebuffed in an initial �2.5 million bid but has finally landed his man. The 32-year-old Scotland international appeared likely to stay at Ewood Park
but Rangers secured his services following talks over the weekend.


3th August 98 - Hendry decision

Scottish giants Rangers expect to know shortly whether their bid for Blackburn defender Colin Hendry has been accepted by the Premiership club.
Hendry has been targeted by new Ibrox manager Dick Advocaat. The need for fresh blood was evident in a 2-1 defeat by Hearts and Advocaat said: "I think something will happen, either a yes or no, on Monday or Tuesday. We'll know then."


3th July 98 - Hendry not for sale

Blackburn Rovers have issued a "hands off" warning over Colin Hendry.
"Colin is not for sale at any price," club chief executive
John Williams said about the Scotland captain. "We would not even consider it."
Central defender Hendry has been linked with a move to Glasgow Rangers.
"Colin has a very important part to play in our plans" Williams said.


1th July 98 - Rovers land Perez

Blackburn have signed defender Sebastien Perez from French club SC Bastia for a fee of �3 million.
Perez, who have agreed a five-year deal, said: "I am delighted to be in England and I hope the experience I gain here will enable me to be part of the French squad after the World Cup."
Rovers boss Roy Hodgson said: "We have been tracking Perez for some time and we are delighted to close the deal."


11th June 98 - Peacock a Rover

Blackburn Rovers have snapped up Newcastle defender Darren Peacock on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling.
Peacock commented "I am saddened at leaving Newcastle, but it is great I am leaving one great club for another."
Rovers boss Roy Hodgson said "We are delighted to take such a good and experienced player. Darren is a great acquisition in preparation for a busy domestic and European season."


1th June 98 - Davies fitness pledge

Kevin Davies completed his �7.25m move to Blackburn and said his only concern was to try and stay fit.
"I missed a lot games last season through injury and although I'm injury-free now I'm not fit," said the England Under-21 international striker.
"I'm going away on holiday and when I get back I'll be working hard to make sure I don't have as many problems as I had last season."

1th June 98 - Rovers start Clearout

Blackburn Manager Roy Hodgson is set to start a mass clear-out at Ewood Park to
fund the �7.5 million signing of Southampton striker Kevin Davies.
Swedish pair Martin Dahlin and Anders Andersson are both expected to be sold with
Dahlin hoping for a move to London and Andersson likely to return home with Gothenburg.
Frenchman Patrick Valery and Norwegian Tore Pedersen are also poised to leave.   


30th May 98 - Blackburn move for striker Davies

Blackburn Rovers have signed 21-year old striker Kevin Davies from Southampton for �7.5 million.
The deal which is likely to be completed on Monday, makes Davies Blackburn's
most expensive player.
Despite starting only 17 games, Davies hit 12 goals for Southampton last term.
He moved to the The Dell a year ago for a fee of just �700,000.

Southampton's Kevin Davies is poised to complete his move to premiership rivals
Blackburn Rovers on Monday for �7.5 million, a record fee for both clubs.
The shock move has been set up by the Rovers boss Roy Hodgson and the 21-year old striker is poised for a �1 million a year contract at Ewood park.
Davies has been a revelation at the Dell since his bargain �700,000 move from Chesterfield 12 months ago  


15th May 98 - Rovers eye Dublin

Blackburn Rovers manager Roy Hodgson is preparing a �4.5 million bid for Coventry striker Dion Dublin.
Hodgson is keen to add to his squad after Rovers, who were among the early pace setters in the Premiership, only just managed to qualify for Europe.
Coventry rejected a �4.2 million bid from Rovers in March but may decide to let Dublin leave as his contract expires in June next year.


7th May 98 - Hodgson swoops

Blackburn Rovers boss Roy Hodgson is reportedly on the verge of completing the signing
of the Italian defender Nicola Boselli from Atalanta.
Boselli's contract expires at the end of the season and he's expected to sign a three-year
deal at Ewood Park.
Hodgson, who is set to complete the move next week, is also believed to be monitoring the
progress of Bologna central defender Massimo Paganin.
